Eichhorn Receives Educational Achievement Award |

(September 30, 2009) John H. Eichhorn, M.D., professor of Anesthesiology and Provost's Distinguished Service Professor, was recently awarded the 2009 Educational Achievement Award by the Kentucky Medical Association. This award is presented each year to a Kentucky physician who has made a significant contribution in medical education, including teaching, research and clinical application in medical practice. For more than 25 years, Eichhorn has worked on improving patient safety, particularly in anesthesia care, and educating fellow physicians about safety standards and protocols. |

Rie to Receive Award from SCCM |

Michael A. Rie, M.D., associate professor of Anesthesiology, was selected as the 2009 recipient of the Grenvik Family Award for Ethics by the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) for his publications on the effects of cost containment in evidence-based Intensive Care Unit outcomes and the challenges they pose for the ethical integrity of the critcal care professions.
