Q: Do you accept graduates of osteopathic medical schools? Although we do accept COMLEX scores as part of the application, we do encourage osteopathic candidates to also provide USMLE scores.
Q: Can applications be submitted directly to the Department? Q: What is the minimum USMLE score needed to apply? Q: When do the interviews take place? Q: Does the Anesthesiology Department at UK offer advanced positions (PGY 2 or greater)? Q: Are there positions available with starting times other than July? Q: Does UK offer clinical base training? Q: How is the clinical base year divided between the PGY-1 and PGY-2 years? PGY-1 Year Includes 9 months clinical base (CB) rotations and 3 months of CA1 rotations. CB: General Medicine, Cardiology Consults, General Surgery, Pulmonary Consults, General Pediatrics, Chronic Pain, Transfusion Medicine, ICU-1, Selective (in-patient IM, surgery, or pediatrics). The resident is expected to have ACLS certification prior to starting residency (UK GME requirement). CA1 Rotations done during the PGY1 Year include: Two months of UK-OR and one month of Acute Pain. (Acute Pain precedes Chronic Pain). The goal is to establish a foundation of anesthesia clinical experience doing “basic” cases. PGY-2 Year Includes 3 months CB rotations and 9 months of CA1 rotations. The CB rotations build on knowledge and skills obtained during the PGY-1 year and include one month rotations on: Emergency Department, ICU-2 and Practice of Medicine/Academic Medicine. CA1 rotations during the PGY2 Year include: One month UK OR/Ambulatory, four months UK-OR, one month Obstetric Anesthesia, one month Preoperative Evaluation Clinic, one month Neuroanesthesia, and one month Intermediate Clinical (IC) Anesthesia in the UK-OR.
